Hurricanes and high wind and heavy rain events can occur in Florida. Sometimes these events are spontaneous, or without timely warning. Whenever leaving your Unit for any length of time, a few precautionary steps can save unnecessary conditions from establishing inside the Unit.
A. Seasonal Residents,Frequent Travelers and Part‐Time Residents:
1. Leave AC set “ON” a minimum of 80 degrees. Failure to keep your AC on can allow mold and mildew to form due to the naturally occurring excess humidity. Installation of a humidistat can be helpful. Consult a licensed air‐conditioning representative.
2. Remove ALL items from vour balconies/patios, including but not limited to:
a. All furniture
b. All plants, potted trees, etc.
c. Any other item that could move during hurricane force wind
3. If you leave an automobile, make sure that there is a key left with someone in case it has to be moved.
4. Make sure there is a spare door key to your Unit left with someone.
5. Shut off the water heater breaker and water to your Unit.
6. Shut off recirculator pump breaker.
7. Drain water lines.
B. Permanent Residents:
1. Follow the above rules.
2. Make your presence known if you are going to be staying in your Unit. Know who else is in your building in case your need help.
3. If the power goes off, turn the breakers off until it is safe to have the power restored. Power surges can burn out all your appliances and electronics.
4. Keep your windows and doors closed tightly. Don’t try to open your sliding doors if the wind is over 75 miles an hour.
5. If you have a pet it may not be possible to take them outdoors. Be prepared.
6. Make sure you have plenty of water, flashlights and batteries, and a battery operated radio and or TV.
7. Know where the water shut off valve is.
8. It is your responsibility to perform any of the needed tasks.
